Should I Quit My Job? – Tips & Advice Before Quitting Your Job. Tip #1

Tip & Advice Before Quitting Your Job. Tip #1: Embrace Your Situation

Have you ever find yourself asking yourself “Should I Quit My Job?”, should I -perhaps- change careers? Should I do something different to what I am already doing?

If you’re here reading this right now, you have obviously had. In fact, that was me on those mornings when I would woke up bright and early to go to work.  I loved my career, but there was something missing. It wasn’t fulfilling anymore.

Something within myself was saying –screaming sometimes- STOP IT! This is not what you want to be doing for the rest of your life! You weren’t born for this! You were born for so much more than being stuck at work 15+ hours a day. Of course this doesn’t include the commuting time which fluctuated between 1 -3 hours a day.

According to some statistics gathered by business insider if we add up all of the time the average person spends working, it would make 90’000 HOURS of WORK over their lifetime.

Yes, you read that correctly: Ninety thousand hours of non-stop work during your lifetime. That is 3’750 DAYS which makes 10.3 YEARS of Your life working.

10.3 Years!!

Imagine yourself working for over a decade of your life, non stop, with no breaks from dawn to dawn, just  like robots.

It sounds more like a sci-fi movie and it may be hard to imagine it happening in the real world but unfortunately, that is the reality for most of people except that instead of working for over a decade non-stop, they work with breaks in between, with a 7-10 day holiday a year, where they don’t even get to rest so, eventually,  they spend most of their lifetime working, ending up stressed, overloaded, unfulfilled.

Oh but this is only the beginning my dear because on top of that, the reality in numbers goes like this:

  • 80% of people is dissatisfied with their current job. (source: Business Insider- Deloitte shift index survey)

  • 25% of employees say work is their main source of stress and 40% say their job is “very or extremely stressful (CDC statistics)

  • 64% of Americans canceled vacations last year. One-third did it for work-related reasons even though most felt they were more in need of a vacation than the year before

  • You spend 90% of your lifetime, INDOORS, most of it at work . That’s 71 out of 79 years.

Do you get the picture? This stuff is real. So it is of no wonder why SOME people like You and I fall in to the realization that there definitely is SOMETHING MORE, something better and more meaningful to do with your life. Something fulfilling that gives you the joy to do what you love, with whom you love, wherever you choose to be while still generating an income.

It is of no wonder why some of Us, then, wake up and start asking ourselves: Should I quit my job? Should I make a career change? Should I start my own business?.

That’s why I decided to create this video training series: “Should I Quit My Job? Tips and Advice You Should Consider before quitting Your Job.

So within the following days/weeks I will be giving you – excuse the redundancy- the tips & advice you need to consider before quitting your job. Ameli Antoinette – Sharing My Mission and Vision with You

So I’ve decided to be sharing my mission and vision with you. I have to admit that it took me a while to figure out my mission and vision.

No, actually, it took me a while to put my mission and vision into words so I could come up with a short phrase that is easy to understand… You know the Rule: Keep it Short and Sweet.

If you’re one of those whose got as much patience ad sylvester has with tweety, then here is the video for you to watch it

I’ve had a vision ever since I was 5 or 6, some people called it dreams, but my childhood dreams became my vision. As I grew up, I knew that my dreams, my vision was closely tied to my vision. Sometimes life puts into our way experiences that we think – I mean, we swear we won’t be able to overcome them!- It’s like chilling out at the beach on a beautiful summer morning, when all of a sudden you feel that the earth shakes -actually you don’t because you’re floating on the calming sea-water- but then you feel the current is taking you away from the shore and suddenly this MASSIVE, HUGE, IMMENSE WAVE (let’s call it a TSUNAMI) starts forming right in front of your beautiful bambi eyes.

When that happens you’ve got 2 options, The fearful-freak-out side of you wants to run away scooby-doo style hoping to find the highest point at the top of the closest mountain (yeah, right).

Whereas the other side, the rebellious one, wants to quickly find a board, jump on it and paddle towards that massive wave and SURF IT! Determined to break a Guinness record while it keeps telling you “We’ve got this baby!“(yeee-haw).

But then, you realize that instead of standing up staring at the tsunami thinking of what was best to do. You should have just take action first! because now…

Oh – no…

Oh – no…

Because now, you are underwater history.

So now that you’ve got an insight of what happens in my mind within 2 seconds of having to take tough decisions at a rush moment. Let’s get back to my… reality check and lessons learnt.

After being devoured and thrashed a thousand times from that -better yet, those– couple of tsunamis*. I saw my life playing as a movie while drowning (this bit is literally true).

*This tsunamis were called:

  • The “Passing Away”: My beloved and sweet Mom passing away very quickly during a crucial moment in my life when I only had time to be strong, move on and get my work done.
  • The “It’s time To Say Good-Bye”: A very bad and toxic split of a long relationship with the man whom -back then- I totally believed was the one I would spend the rest of my life with.
  • The “Career Change & Naysayers Carols”: After having pretty much zero time to be with my mom, I re-assesed my life and decided to make a career change. I always had the entrepreneurial bug within me. I wanted to have my own business so I decided it was time to Start my own business. Of course, I had no idea what to do and how to do it; my family and most of the people around me, but 3 people, were singing their nay-saying Carols , telling me I was NUTS for leaving my Medical career, my status and my home country (Yes I made a big move from Peru to NZ)
  • The “Oh Baby I’m Your 25 Crisis, nice to meet you”: I was 25 and my life was a total mess, everything was upside down, what I’ve had planned ever since I was 12 dissappeared in a blink of an eye, I was all alone. What the Heck was I going to Do??? Yes, believe it or not I was on my 24’s-25’s when ALL OF THIS BOMBS EXPLODED pretty much within a period of 3 months.

BUT Somehow, I managed to survive, I choked, I lost my memory but then when I woke up I was actually upside down hanging from a rock. Bruised, with some ribs broken and very confused I made my way back again. This is only a bit of what I have learnt…

  1. Life is not easy, but it’s not difficult either. It is our perception at the precise moment what defines what life really is. And it’s our Actions at that moment what determine what will happen to us in the future. In other words, where we are TODAY is somehow a result of a series of actions we have taken in the past.
  2. Life is not a colorful world, but it ain’t all black and white, baby.  Actually, the monochromatic tones will jump into it every now and then. It is only up to you to choose the right color combinations and create your own canvas, your own masterpiece.
  3. Your mind and your time are your biggest assets. In my opinion, material things are worthless if you don’t have the time, the freedom to enjoy it and the right people around you to share it with. So your TIME and your MIND are your biggest assets. Spend them wisely, invest them wisely. If you do you’ll have the freedom and the ability to generate the abundance that will complement the life you love. For you and the ones around you:)

So… what does THIS has to do with sharing my mission and vision with you?

It may seem more like I’m rambling, but the truth is. What I have just said above has everything to do with me managing my own business, loving my life and communicating my core with YOU

Some of my decisions took me through the tough road, some of them were lessons I HAD-TO learn, lessons that I needed to learn so I could become a better person to Serve You. To give you the value -I hope You need- to take charge of YOUR OWN LIFE!

My mission is to help you take inspired action so you take charge of your own life. Making a balance between your mind and your soul, to create a lifestyle and a business that you absolutely love.

If there is ONE thing I am ABSOLUTELY certain is that YOU create your own reality. And there is no one more responsible for anything that happens in your life but YOURSELF.

But that is something we’ll discuss on my next video, on my next post where I will give you the Tips and Advice to consider before Quitting your Job, so whether you want to start a new business, make a career change, travel the world, go on food tours then, stay tuned for my next post!

Advice #1 is: Embrace Your Situation :).

That’s all for today folks!

See you tomorrow!

What this Doctor did will SHOCK YOU!

Ameli Antoinette Surgery Time
I was a career-focused, burnt out General Practitioner.

Burnt out because I worked endless shifts to a point where it felt like I was simply existing. I would wake up, go to work, head home late in the evening, if I was lucky I would get a few hours of sleep and then the cycle would begin all-over-again.

Although I loved my profession, I let it dictate my life. Spare time was a rare commodity and I lost out on spending special occasions with the people I love.

My biggest regret is that I could not be there when my Mom needed me the most. She was sick and after she suddenly passed away it was too late, I had no ability to recover that time, she was  already gone.

Don’t get me wrong though…..

Ameli Antoinette-and-Mom-Love-Wealthypreneurs
I don’t blame losing the last few months with my Mom on my patients or my career; because as crazy as it sounds, being a Doctor comes with taking many sacrifices to help others, sacrifices that sometimes we are not even aware of!

So while my caring nature would make the most of it’s time taking care of my patients. The sad reality is that I missed out on caring for the most important person in my life, which was my Mom!

Mom and I lived on our own and although  I know she was proud of me. I feel that Mom would have loved having me sit next to her reading her the newspaper, taking care of her, giving her back everything she gave me, instead my consuming career only paid her with the absence of her only daughter. A career where my main focus was worrying about emergency calls, my patients status, shifts or having those pesky last minute meeting calls.

I cannot help but feel that I have missed out on some of the best days that we could have spent together, like going on holidays, travelling, painting, going on food tours, taking pictures and relaxing with the people who are most important to us!

At this stage the image of my office, the hospital and the status quo of a conditioned society seemed to be engraved within me, making me mistakenly believe that experiencing my ‘WANTS’ were not possible.

But I could no longer handle that reality. We have total control of our lives and if I am in a particular situation it is because I put myself in that situation

I realized that there are more important things in life than just working to exist or living to work!.

I had to make a change!

So after Mom passed away, I decided to pursue one of my main desires. Since I was a little girl I wanted to move to New Zealand and now I was going to make it happen. I was no longer going to be a workaholic.

Once in New Zealand I accepted a position in plastic surgery.

3 months after mom was gone, on one of my daily work-routines at the operating theatre, we had a particular middle aged female patient who was having breast reconstructive surgery.

Seeing her laying in bed, I noticed the grey complexion of her skin and I knew that she had undergone chemotherapy treatment, I saw the scars on her chest, I saw her fragile hands and suddenly I was overwhelmed.

For a moment I saw my Mom laying in that bed and all of a sudden I felt like passing out! It was so overwhelming that my heart was racing and all I Wanted to do was to get out of the theatre and run! It was all too much pain to deal with.

It hit me. It was real. Mom was gone…

After moving overseas, for three months I pretended that nothing ever happened. It was easier to continue like that than facing the tough reality. That day, it felt like my Mom was trying to remind me that emotions could not be forgotten. If ignored, emotions have a unique ability to present themselves!

Once I calmed down, on my way back home, I started evaluating my situation. Within a blink of an eye I was back to being a workaholic, back to the early mornings and the late nights with minimum amount of sleep.

I realized that I had fallen back into the same old routine that I had in Peru!

I guess I was just trying to keep myself busy, to avoid thinking, to avoid accepting that Mum was gone but my body was indicating how fragile my emotional state was and if I did not take care of myself I was going to burn out.

The next chapter of my life shocked me. It shocked my colleagues, it shocked my family, it shocked my friends,
It shocked people I met and even now it still shocks people who meet me.

I needed time for myself so I quit medicine -at least for the time being-. I thought it would be a brilliant idea to find a job with normal working hours.

I looked for alternative jobs in medicine and other industries where I could utilize my skills, but no one would employ me as I was over qualified.

Then, I finally got employed and the vision of my 9-5 job became a reality. At first, things were great! but the 9-5 lifestyle is definitely not as ordinary as it is made out to be.  I soon felt the leash of my boss tightening around me.

I went from an independent woman and medical professional to being controlled by bosses who were doing a fantastic job at running their company into the ground while taking their staff along with them.

I thought that perhaps it was time to go back to medicine. But, thinking about working back in the sterile walls of a hospital brought back sad memories, making me feel claustrophobic and nervous.

I felt between a Scylla and Charybdis and got extremely frustrated with this thought, until a switch flicked in my head….

I decided that I was going to live my life under my own terms. I am not going to let someone determine what my time is worth, nor decide at what time I can or cannot take lunch, etc.

Why should I work for someone if I can work just as hard for myself and create my own pay-check?

I have a burning desire to live in a world where I can take holidays whenever I want, enjoy life with friends and spend quality time with my those I love.

I totally believe in the law of attraction and when you really want something, with all the power in your heart, and you look for it, you will find it! So I asked the universe for a sign…

Then I met some awesome new friends at a Christmas BBQ. They both had just quit their jobs to travel the world and work part time online. Listening to them speak of their plans for their amazing year ahead certainly captured my attention. I started probing them for information, as it sounded so amazing that it was almost too good to be true.

At first I was a little skeptical but I maintained an open mind. They told me that they will be teaching, mentoring and providing educational online tools to help small businesses and entrepreneurs grow their online or offline businesses.

However, my main concern was that I had no business, but I somehow realized that this was going to be my solution. They continued by explaining how I could leverage these same tools to create my own business and position myself in the niche of my choice.

It was at this point when I decided to postpone returning to medicine and made the smart decision to an online business.

Today, my life has now TRANSFORMED, those claustrophobic hospital walls are no longer leaning in on me anymore, instead they have been replaced by a beautiful blue sky, sea and nature

I now have the freedom to live and breathe in a world I have create for myself, living the lifestyle I always dreamed of.

I now choose when to work, where to work and in which city of the world I want to work in.

More importantly, I can spend as much time as I want next to the people I love.

My heart is finally happy :).

Despite the limited knowledge I had, the internet has given me the ability to produce an income. I started my online business part time and now I run it from the comfort of my home, or wherever I happen to be, as long as I have internet and my phone or my laptop. The internet never sleeps and is always there when you need it, opening the doors to endless possibilities.

The crazy thing is that everyday people are using the internet to create careers, products, etc. It is not the computer boffins, scientists or engineers; it is just regular people from every walk of life

And I’m so glad I challenged myself to take the chance and trust my inner feelings. Walking away from medicine was one of the toughest decisions I have ever made but it has taught me that I can be brave and try new experiences as this world won’t hurt me…… all!

My world has changed, and my mission is now to help other people realize that their dreams ARE possible, even if you are not quite sure what that dream might be.

So if you are determined to change your situation but need some advice or guidance to get started then first, download my free ebook: “How to transition from employee to entrepreneur”, you can access it below this post. If you are ready to make that change now, then visit  my page here where I’ll introduce you to one of the persons who walked me through this process and helped build my business from the ground.

Remember, You are born and then you die, but in between you can do anything you want. It is society that creates rules for us, but you can break out of those rules. The only limitations are those in your mind, get rid of them to create your own reality.

Looking forward to meet you on the beaches of the world

To your success! 🙂
